Jute fiber comes from the tropical plants Corchorus olitorius and Corchorus capsularis. To make this natural fiber, the stem of the jute plant is first soaked in water. This loosens the fibers and makes them easier to extract. The stem is then chopped into small pieces and left to rot in the water for a few days.
After the jute has rotted, the fibers can be pulled out by hand or with a machine. The fibers are then cleaned, sorted, and spun into yarn.
